Specializing in the health, social and financial needs of seniors, Ken uses that knowledge to design a "Plan of Action" for seniors, which include insurance programs, immediate annuities, Irrevocable Funeral Trusts, Life Settlements, Living Trusts, Children's/Gifting Trusts, Life Insurance Trusts, IRAs distributions, Enshield non-qualified retirement programs, college funding, reverse and forward mortgages to fit individual needs.

Ken started the Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) of Western Suffolk in New York, January 2006. It features a group of professionals who are experts in their field, including a CPA, elder law attorney, long term care home health aides, insurance and investment brokers, hospice management, senior living accommodations public relations manager, senior real estate specialists, hearing audiologist and a funeral home director. The SRA provides assistance to seniors and those who care about them-that is our mission because that's what's important to us.

A strong believer in proactive health care, legal and financial planning, Ken encourages seniors to become proactive in making health care and financial decisions before they are necessary. This ensures these decisions are made thoughtfully and with the senior's voluntary knowledgeable and informed consent. He also encourages proper estate planning so assets over the Federal and State estate tax threshold are protected. This allows seniors to leave a legacy to their heirs-protecting them from the possible 60-65% taxes that the heirs would hand over to the government for the value of their loved one's estate.

The following is the service I offer that will be most beneficial to clients with an IRA or employment-sponsored retirement accounts.

1. Make certain the client understands the IRA of the definition "designated beneficiary" as it applies to Individual Retirement Accounts so the client is aware of the stretch option opportunity.

2. Obtain from the client a copy of the beneficiary designation form for every Individual Retirement Account or employee sponsored retirement account owned. (Bank, Credit Union, Mutual Funds, Brokerage Account or Annuity.)

3. Make certain that a primary and a secondary (contingent) beneficiary is named.

4. If there are multiple beneficiaries that each beneficiary's share is clearly identified with a fraction, a percentage, or the word "equally", if that is applicable.

5. Make certain that the financial institution has the beneficiary selection on file and that their records agree with those of the client (Financial institutions merge, move and quit business).

6. Have the client keep a copy of all the beneficiary designation forms and provide copies to relevant advisors.

7. Request that clients let someone know where to locate the beneficiary designation forms upon their death.

8. Review the beneficiary designation forms with the client on an ongoing basis to make sure the forms are correct and reflect any changes that occur during the year to new tax laws, such as increases or decreases in the estate tax exemption, the client's own estate planning, and to major life events such as birth, death, adoption, marriage, divorce or remarriage.

9. Explain the potential pitfalls of naming an unexamined revocable living trust as an IRA beneficiary when the client intends to use the stretch option.

I am neither an attorney, nor accountant. I do not practice either law or accountancy. I do not draft trusts. I would encourage clients to meet with their own accounting or legal professional. My objective is to make clients aware of the opportunities available and the problems to avoid in the distribution phase of their individual retirement accounts.

This service offers uncommon knowledge particularly helpful to clients with sizeable retirement accounts. It is safe to say that many financial professionals who assist clients with their retirement accounts are less than proactive in extending this service.
